About The Peppers
100% ORGANIC AND HOME GROWN
If you've ever had pepper flakes in a restaurant or from a grocery store, you know how bland and flavorless they can be. Tonneson's Peppers are different, and you know it from the first whiff from the jar. We grow and harvest our own peppers with lots of TLC, carefully dry and grind them and keep them sealed for freshness.
What's in it?
Tonneson's Peppers is 100% ground peppers with nothing else added. We use a unique blend of some of the hottest, most flavorful peppers in the world. Creamy, buttery, roasty...these are some of the words people use to describe the aroma and flavor of our blend. Here are some of the peppers we use to make Tonneson's Peppers:
The peppers
HABANERO
For the uninitiated even a tiny piece of Habanero would cause intense and prolonged oral suffering. Underneath the heat is a delicate plum-tomato apple-like flavour. close relatives are Scotch Bonnet and Rocoto.
Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper)
The famous and prized Bhut Jolokia is generally considered the hottest pepper in the world, measuring an amazing 1,000,000+ on the Scoville scale! Fruits are triangular, pointed and grow to 2-3", with wrinkled skin than ripens to red. Flavor is unbelieveably hot, several times that of the average Habanero. Originally from India.
Cayenne
Also known as the Guinea spice, Ginnie pepper, Cow Horn pepper, finger chili, and bird pepper. These peppers range from 4 to 12 inches in length and are one of the most common chile peppers available. Deep green, yellow, orange, or red. Long, skinny, and wrinkled in appearance. Hot in taste and often used in Cajun recipes.
Caribbean Red
Much like the orange habanero, this red version of the classic pepper shares its exceedingly hot flavor. Fruits grow to 1-2", ripen to red, and have a hidden fruity flavor beneath the intense heat.
Thai
One of the very popular hot peppers hailing from Thailand, this variety produces slender 2-3", fire red peppers with a fiery flavor too! Tall plants produce heavily and are quite ornamental. Fruits are very hot, great for spicy cooking and drying. One of the most common hot peppers used in Thailand.
Fatali
One of the hottest peppers known, the Fatali scores near record-heat on pepper heat scales and even beats most Habanero's. Produces golden yellow fruits that grow to 3" and have a citrus-like flavor beneath their intense heat. Originally from the Central African Republic.
How Hot Are They?
We use some of the hottest peppers known to man to make Tonneson's Peppers so care must be taken when using them. But beneath the intense heat is a unique blend of flavor and aroma that when used sparingly enhances the taste of nearly any recipe. Start with a little and adjust if needed.
